As a student of tourism studies, you may know of wonderful places that are little known outside of your community or area. Tell us about these tourism gems and you could stand a chance of winning the national travel writing competition!

CRITERIA AND GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY:
Who can enter?
The competition is open to learners over 15 years old (born on or before 1 January 1997) and who are currently studying Tourism in Grades 10, 11 or 12.
Guidelines:
Each entrant must chose a topic and write an article (essay) based on research or experience. The article must reflect the topic of Secret Trails of My Country:

This means exploring and exposing one or more natural, historic or cultural attractions that are often overlooked. Commercial venues such as amusement parks, resorts or attractions are not eligible as a subject
- Entrants may submit only one original article which must be accompanied by an entry form.
- Entries must be certified by the Tourism Teacher.
- Each article must be at least 500 words in length, but not more than 750 words. All articles must be typed and double-spaced on letter-sized paper or submitted in this format as an attached file to an email. The article may be written in the learner’s native language but this will be translated into English for publication.
- Entries must be accompanied by two or three captioned photographs which reflect the text of the article. The photographs do not have to be the work of the writer, but writers must secure the photographer’s permission to use the pictures. This written permission must be attached to the article. Photos may be submitted electronically with the entry. Permission slips can be scanned and submitted electronically, but original copies must be provided in addition either by fax or mail.
- The article must include a bibliography detailing the sources of information used in the article.

JUDGING CRITERIA:
The articles will be judged by a panel of travel writing and tourism experts who will evaluate each article in terms of its:
- Creativity
- Content and relevance to the competition theme
- Relevance of photographs to text
- Grammar
- Originality and style

Completed entries must include:
- Entry form (signed by the teacher)
