GTTP-SA to host the first National Tourism Education Conference

The rationale for the conference is to capacitate teachers to deliver the Tourism curriculum more successfully in the classroom. The conference will focus on four aspects, namely content training, quality assessment, IT skills development and interaction with industry.

The 4-day conference will be held from 25 to 28 June 2019 during the school holidays in Kimberley due to the city’s central location in the country.  The conference will target 300 Tourism teachers who have had no/limited training to present the curriculum successfully in the classroom.

The NTEC conference will be held at the (venue to be confirmed) in Kimberley and will be funded by government and the private sector.

The conference will offer Tourism teachers…

  • TRAINING /EMPOWERMENT SESSIONS

Training on content and assessment will be conducted by recruited subject specialists

  • IT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Upskilling of computer and presentation skills will be conducted by recruited IT specialists with special focus on the educational environment

  • INTERACTION WITH INDUSTRY

Tourism teachers will have the opportunity to interact with and learn from industry through dedicated sessions throughout the 4-day period.

Each teacher attending the conference will receive a branded bag containing conference paraphernalia, a pre-loaded device with Learning and Teaching Support Material (LTSM) to be used in class and various teaching resources. Teachers will also receive a certificate of participation that may contribute to their annual CPTD score. (The Personal Development Programme).

The conference will help develop much-needed expertise and capacity within the country. This in turn will ultimately result in better prepared young people leaving school with a much better chance of success in the higher education system or alternatively in the transition from school into the tourism industry.
