DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM
The newly formed Department of Tourism South Africa aims to fulfill the national government’s role towards creating the conditions for responsible tourism growth and development by promoting and developing tourism, thereby increasing job and entrepreneurial opportunities and encouraging the meaningful participation of previously disadvantaged individuals. The focus will be on facilitating the growth of the tourism industry
SA TOURISM:
This is the new site for international travellers to plan their visit to South Africa. The aim of the site is to get the broadest exposure to South African travel products via their platform, and the goal of all their marketing spend is not just to get a user to the site but to drive them all the way through to making an actual trip.
GLOBAL TRAVEL AND TOURISM PARTNERSHIP (GTTP):
The GTTP is a multi-country educational program that introduces students to career opportunities in Travel & Tourism. Currently they have more than 557,000 students in ten countries. School systems provide teachers and classrooms; local and international companies provide financial and in-kind support

THETA
Theta is the Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Education and Training Authority and is the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) established under the Skills Development Act (No 97 of 1998) [the Skills Act] for the Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Economic Sector. A SETA’s main function is to contribute to the raising of skills and to bring skills to the employed, or those wanting to be employed, in their sector.
TOURISM BUSINESS COUNCIL OF SOUTH AFRICA:
The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) is the voice of the tourism business sector involved in tourism. The TBCSA was established in February 1996 by leading tourism businesses. Its primary purpose is to engage with all stakeholders in developing macro strategies that create an enabling environment for tourism development. The TBCSA does not replace the trade associations. Trade associations, representing their members interests are members of the TBCSA.
SATSA:
In the inbound tourism industry, Southern Africa Tourism Services Association is member-driven, non-profit association representing the private sector. They offer the inbound tourism industry unequalled opportunities for networking and represents: Transport providers, Tour Operators, Destination Management Companies, Accommodation, Suppliers, Tourism Brokers, Adventure Tourism Providers, Business Tourism Providers and Tourism Services providers.
ASATA:
The Association of South African Travel Agents, ASATA, was formed in 1956 and its founders created a representative forum in the industry to promote professional service with security for both Members and their clients. Membership of ASATA is entirely voluntary and extends to South African Retail Travel Agents, Travel Management Companies and Wholesalers. Currently the Membership represents more than 85% of the industry including the head offices of most of the major brands.
FEDHASA:
Since 1949 Fedhasa has been representing the South African Hospitality Industry on a local, provincial, national and global level to protect the interests of all stakeholders of the industry, thereby enabling members to achieve their objectives.
UNWTO:
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation is a specialised agency of the United Nations and the the leading international organisation in the field of tourism. It serves as a global forum for tourism policy issues and a practical source of tourism know-how. UNWTO plays a central and decisive role in promoting the development of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism, paying particular attention to the interests of developing countries.
WORLD TRAVEL & TOURISM COUNCIL:
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) is the forum for business leaders in the Travel & Tourism industry. With Chief Executives of some one hundreed of the world’s leading Travel & Tourism companies as its Members, WTTC has a unique mandate and overview on all matters related to Travel & Tourism. Their aim is to raise awareness of Travel & Tourism as one of the world’s largest industries, employing approximately 220 million people and generating over 9.4 per cent of the World’s GDP.
SPRINGBOARD:
For over 18 years, Springboard have been helping young, unemployed and disadvantaged people into careers in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism as well as being the industry’s natural partner in improving its image, attracting new talent and addressing skills shortages.

RODNEY’S TOURISM SUPPORT SITE

The Tourism Support Site is administrated by Rodney Johnson, a tourism educator from Cape Town. The aim is to provide relevant support materials for Tourism Educators and learners that can be accessed via a cellphone. All resources on the site is FREE and can be used for educational purposes.
